LockIn is a focus app that blocks apps you choose on your own iPhone. It is built to keep your data on your device. This page explains, in plain language, what LockIn uses, what it never collects, and where everything lives.
The short version
- Almost everything stays on your iPhone.
- No analytics, no ads, no trackers — and we never sell data.
- The only thing that ever leaves your device is the small amount needed for the optional Partner feature — and never your partner's phone number.
What LockIn uses, and why
App selections (Screen Time / Family Controls). When you pick which apps to block, iOS gives LockIn opaque tokens — not app names. LockIn literally cannot read which apps you selected; it can only hand the tokens back to iOS to enforce blocking. These tokens are stored only on your device.
Health data (steps, calories, activity rings). If you use a fitness unlock, LockIn reads today's step count, active calories, and whether your rings are closed — read-only, from Apple Health, solely to check whether you've met the goal you set. LockIn never writes to Health and never sends health data anywhere.
Location (optional, for auto-start).If you add a location trigger (e.g. "lock my phone when I arrive at the gym"), LockIn asks iOS to watch a geofence around the pin you drop. Your location is used only to start or stop your own sessions and is never transmitted off your device. LockIn does not track, log, or upload your movements.
NFC tags and QR/barcode keys.When you bind a physical key, LockIn stores the tag's identifier or the scanned code's text on your device so future scans can be matched against it. Nothing about your tags or codes is uploaded.
Partner feature (optional — the only online feature). If you set up a Partner (a trusted person who approves early exits), LockIn talks to our web service so your partner can approve or deny from a link. Sent to our backend: a pact ID, the first names you enter for yourself and your partner, the shield's name, and — when you ask to end early — the reason you type and how long the session has run. Never sent:your partner's phone number and messaging channel stay on your device only; LockIn opens your own Messages or WhatsApp with a pre-filled message, so we never see contact details. If you don't use the Partner feature, LockIn makes no network requests with your data at all.
Session history and Realm progress.Your shields, sessions, streaks, and the world you build in the Realm are stored on-device in the app's local database (plus a small shared area used by LockIn's own extensions so blocking works in the background). None of it is uploaded.
What LockIn does NOT do
- No analytics or telemetry SDKs — no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, Meta, or similar.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers.
- No accounts required, no email collection.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data with anyone.
- No reading of your messages, contacts, photos, or browsing — the only Photos access is saving a QR code image you ask to save.

Deleting your data
- Deleting a shield deletes its sessions, keys, schedules, and location triggers.
- Deleting the LockIn app deletes everything stored on the device.
- To remove Partner data from our web service, contact us at the address below with your pact details and we'll delete it.
Children
LockIn is rated 17+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date. Material changes to what the Partner feature transmits will be called out in the app.
